canyon
a selective multiband stereo widener. widen the part of the spectrum you want, and leave everything else exactly as it was.
01 — the engine
three ways to make it wider
dimension is the default, and the one most tracks want. all three build pure side content, so the middle of your mix is never touched.
02 — multiband
widen the fun part. keep what matters mono.
drag the crossover line to set where the effect starts. everything below it stays clean and mono — subs, kick, bass root. 3-band mode adds a second line, each band is set to dry, mono or wide on its own, and any one of them can be soloed.
03 — smart follow
the crossover follows the bassline
a fixed split only suits a bassline that sits on one note. follow tracks the root and moves the split with it, so the same partials stay on the same side of it all the way through. complex basslines stop getting starved of width.
04 — the rest of it
everything else, briefly
mix
blend the whole effect back against the dry signal.
pre-mono
collapse a band’s own stereo before widening it, so the width comes out the same whatever you feed it.
band states
dry, mono or wide, set per band.
solo
low, mid or high on its own, to hear exactly what you changed.
root / +h2 / +h3
how much of the tracked note stays mono: the fundamental, or up to its 2nd or 3rd harmonic.
snap
quantises the tracked note to the nearest semitone, so vibrato and slides do not wobble the split.
glide
how fast the split chases a new note. wide leaps always move faster than small ones.
the analyser
draws the tracked note, its partials, and the split it derived from them.
mono-safe by construction
all mid/side. the mono sum of the output is identical to the input’s — no phase cancellation, no comb filtering, zero latency.
one key, two machines
node-locked. out of seats, canyon offers to release them all rather than sending you to find an old computer.
05 — installing on a mac
one extra step on a mac
canyon runs natively on apple silicon and intel macs, macos 10.15 or later. the installer is not signed with an apple developer id, so the first time you open it macos stops it and asks you to confirm. no terminal needed:
1 — open the .pkg
macos says it cannot verify it. click done.
2 — open anyway
open system settings, then privacy & security. scroll down and click open anyway next to canyon, then enter your password.
3 — install
the installer adds the vst3, the audio unit and the app. customise lets you leave any of them out.
4 — rescan
open your daw and rescan plugins. canyon is listed under mvtti audio.
